2014 TUSN Retrospective - ISFL

2014 was the inaugural year for International Shoot Fighting League. After 13 events, let's make a retrospective of ISFL in 2014.

ISFL 4: Bordin vs. Sokoloff II - The Rematch = August 24th, 2014
ISFL 5: Bordin vs. Jussianen = September 14th, 2014
ISFL 6: Bordin vs. Jussianen II - The Rematch = October 4th, 2014
ISFL 7: Bordin vs. Williamson = October 18th, 2014
ISFL 8: Bordin vs. Williamson II - The Rematch = November 8th, 2014
ISFL 9: Bordin vs. Sokoloff III - Once Again = November 22nd, 2014
ISFL 10: Bordin vs. Lewin = December 6th, 2014
ISFL 11: Lewin vs. Mikalska = December 20th, 2014

Now, let's review it:

The first event was ISFL Tournament Day 1, a tournament for the ISFL World Openweight Championship. Here had only 1st round matches and the Last Chance Qualifying. There was a draw for the matches, and Alex Williamson had to face Christian Manning in the Last Chance Qualifying, and the winner would face Russell Hislop. Williamson defeated Manning and qualified to Round 1. Speaking of Round 1, few surprising results (if you look back from now, of course) : Jamie Lewin lost to Mikaël Bonhomme and Akona Masilela lost to Alex Laventi. The other fights had: Kenny Murray defeating Aidan Kerr, Heiko Jussianen defeating Brian Mikalska, Yoshihiro Fujiwara defeating Predrag Jerkovic, Kieran Bordin defeating Mathieu Jablonski, Jérôme Sokoloff defeating Brian Barrows, and Alex Williamson, in his second fight in the night, defeating Russell Hislop. All of the wins from this event happened thanks to KOs. So, Round 1 was over. Round 2 would happen 3 nights later at ISFL Tournament Day 2.

The follow-up to the 1st round tournament matches had the Round 2 matches with the 8 match winners from the previous event. Alex Laventi defeated Kenny Murray by KO and qualified to the semifinals. In a match that, as we see it now, happened to be an upset, Mikael Bonhomme defeating Heiko Jussianen by KO. Kieran Bordin defeated Yoshihiro Fujiwara by TKO and Jérôme Sokoloff defeated Alex Williamson by KO. Next was ISFL 1: The Beginning.

June 7th, 2014 had ISFL 1: The Beginning. The semifinals had Alex Laventi defeating Mikael Bonhomme, and Kieran Bordin defeating Jérôme Sokoloff, both wins by KO. The next four matches had wins via KO. Akona Masilela defeated Predrag Jerkovic, Brian Mikalska defeated Mathieu Jablonski, Heiko Jussianen defeated Kenny Murray and Alex Williamson defeated Yoshihiro Fujiwara. The main fight had the final for the title, as Kieran Bordin defeated Alex Laventi via TKO and became the first ever ISFL Openweight Champion.

ISFL 2: Bordin vs. Laventi, was on June 28th, 2014. Wins by KO were the following: Jamie Lewin defeated Aidan Kerr, Predrag Jerkovic defeated Christian Manning, Jérôme Sokoloff defeated Mikaël Bonhomme and Kieran Bordin retained the title over Alex Laventi. The win by TKO was Heiko Jussianen over Mathieu Jablonski. And the win by submission was Russell Hislop over Alex Williamson, in an upset win.

July 26th, 2014 had ISFL 3: Bordin vs. Sokoloff. There were 7 matches, 1 of them ended in a submission: Alex Laventi defeated Mikaël Bonhomme. The other 6 ended due to KOs. Jamie Lewin defeated Christian Manning, Akona Masilela defeated Aidan Kerr, Brian Mikalska defeated Kenny Murray, Yoshihiro Fujiwara defeated Russell Hislop, Heiko Jussianen defeated Alex Williamson and Kieran Bordin retaining the title over Jérôme Sokoloff.

August 24th, 2014 had ISFL 4: Bordin vs. Sokoloff II - The Rematch. There were 7 matches, 1 ended due to a submission: Heiko Jussianen defeated Alex Laventi. The other 6 ended due to KOs: Christian Manning defeated Mathieu Jablonski, Akona Masilela defeated Jamie Lewin, Predrag Jerkovic defeated Russell Hislop, Yoshihiro Fujiwara defeated Alex Williamson, Brian Mikalska defeated Mikaël Bonhomme and Kieran Bordin retaining the title again over Jérôme Sokoloff.

ISFL 5: Bordin vs. Jussianen was on September 14th, 2014. Six fights, 4 of those ended due to KOs: Kenny Murray defeated Mathieu Jablonski, Predrag Jerkovic defeated Aidan Kerr, Alex Williamson defeated Akona Masilela and Yoshihiro Fujiwara defeated Alex Laventi. Two ended due to TKOs: Jamie Lewin defeated Brian Mikalska and Kieran Bordin retaining the title over Heiko Jussianen.

ISFL 6: Bordin vs. Jussianen II - The Rematch was on October 4th, 2014. Seven fights, all of those ended due to KOs. Russell Hislop defeated Mikaël Bonhomme, Brian Barrows, in his first match after ISFL Tournament Day 1, defeated Christian Manning, Aidan Kerr defeated Mathieu Jablonski, and got his first ISFL win, Brian Mikalska defeated Predrag Jerkovic, Jérôme Sokoloff defeated Akona Masilela, Alex Williamson defeated Yoshihiro Fujiwara and Kieran Bordin retaining the title again over Heiko Jussianen.

ISFL 7: Bordin vs. Williamson was on October 18th, 2014. Eight fights, one of them ended in a submission/TKO: In his ISFL debut match, Bruno Arnason made Akona Masilela pass out with a trampling clutch (Arnason raised Masilela's leg way too high, while Masilela was with his chest facing the canvas, meanwhile Arnason squeezed Masilela's head with his foot). The KO wins were: Christian Manning defeated Aidan Kerr, Brian Barrows defeated Kenny Murray, Mikaël Bonhomme defeated Mathieu Jablonski, Jérôme Sokoloff defeated Alex Laventi, Jamie Lewin defeated Brian Mikalska, Heiko Jussianen defeated Predrag Jerkovic and Kieran Bordin retaining the title over Alex Williamson.

November 8th, 2014 had ISFL 8: Bordin vs. Williamson II - The Rematch. There were 9 matches, 7 of them ended with KO: Russell Hislop defeated ISFL debutant Sobieslaw Blazek. Also in his ISFL debut, Iuliu Ioan Petrescu defeated Mathieu Jablonski, Christian Manning defeated Mikaël Bonhomme, Brian Barrows defeated Kenny Murray, Bruno Arnason defeated Predrag Jerkovic, Heiko Jussianen defeated Yoshihiro Fujiwara and Jérôme Sokoloff defeated Jamie Lewin. However, Brian Mikalska's win over Alex Laventi ended in a submission. Kieran Bordin's win against Alex Williamson was the only that ended in a TKO. Bordin retained his title again over Alex Williamson.

November 22nd, 2014 had ISFL 9: Bordin vs. Sokoloff III - Once Again. Nine matches, one of them ended in a submission: Jamie Lewin defeated Brian Mikalska. The other eight ended due to KOs: Sobieslaw Blazek defeated Iuliu Ioan Petrescu, Kenny Murray defeated Alex Laventi, Predrag Jerkovic defeated Yoshihiro Fujiwara, Brian Barrows defeated Russell Hislop, Christian Manning defeated Alex Williamson, Bruno Arnason defeated Akona Masilela, Heiko Jussianen defeated Mikaël Bonhomme and Kieran Bordin retained the title again over Jérôme Sokoloff.

ISFL 10: Bordin vs. Lewin was on December 6th, 2014. Eight fights, one of them ended due to a TKO: Christian Manning defeated Predrag Jerkovic. Six of them ended due to KOs: Russell Hislop defeated Mathieu Jablonski, Aidan Kerr defeated Iuliu Ioan Petrescu, Sobieslaw Blazek defeated Brian Barrows, Bruno Arnason defeated Kenny Murray, Brian Mikalska defeated Yoshihiro Fujiwara, Jérôme Sokoloff defeated Alex Williamson. But the most shocking match of the event ended in a submission: Kieran Bordin, after 6 months,finally lost the title, after losing via submission to Jamie Lewin.

ISFL 11 was supposed to have the rematch of Bordin vs. Lewin, but Kieran Bordin went missing the day after he lost the title. There are countless possible reasons of why such thing happened, although Jamie Lewin has been considering the fact that Bordin is in fact afraid of him. So, Brian Mikalska was brought to the title picture.

December 20th, 2014 had ISFL 11: Lewin vs. Mikalska. Eight matches, one of them ending with a submission: Sobieslaw defeated Akona Masilela. All the other 7 matches ended with KOs: Iuliu Ioan Petrescu defeated Alex Laventi, the ISFL debutant Imanol Albizua defeated Aidan Kerr, Russell Hislop defeated Yoshihiro Fujiwara, Predrag Jerkovic defeated Alex Williamson, Brian Barrows defeated Christian Manning, Bruno Arnason defeated Heiko Jussianen and Jamie Lewin defeated Brian Mikalska and retained the title.

ISFL's first 2015 event will be ISFL 12: Lewin vs. Arnason, on January 24th, 2015.
